Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) or Hoof and Mouth Disease is a infectious and sometime deadly malady for cattle and hoofed animals.
Pakistan’s livestock sector is badly hit by frequent outbreaks of FMD during recent years.
UVAS Lahore’s Professor Dr Khushi Mohammad proposed a simple prevention / cure strategy for Foot and Mouth Disease. With his research team Dr Khusi said that the cattle who have been affected from the disease and recover from it develop immunity from the disease. Simmilerly the animals which are vaccinated for FMD also posses same traits.
He suggested that if 100cc blood of that animal is injected to the animal who is affected from the disease, it can also show signs of immunity in 24Hrs.
In epidemic days even healthy animals can be injected the blood to gain partial immunity upto 7 days.
He also reveal that this method has been in use in several dairy farms across the country and results are till now are satisfactory.
